Meet the Beekeeper
Nick Hoefly is a Certified Master Beekeeper and shares his passion through classes and events dedicated to honey bees and pollinators, as well as online through several social channels. A veteran of the TV/Film industry, Nick found bees when he took up beekeeping as a hobby with a friend. The hobby grew and he eventually founded Astor Apiaries with his wife, Ashley. Astor Apiaries is now one of the leading apiaries in the New York City area.
As part of his extensive work with bees, Nick has developed several beekeeping classes, hive tours, a full beginner’s course, and a year-long urban beekeeping apprenticeship. He is certified as a Master Beekeeper by the Dyce Lab for Honey Bee Studies at Cornell University and serves as a beekeeping consultant for several non-profits. Nick is also a member of the Apiary Industry Advisory Committee for the NYS Dept of Agriculture and Markets, the Apiary Advisory Council for Certified Naturally Grown, a board member of the Long Island Beekeepers Club, and a founding member and board member of the New York Bee Club.
Nick received honey sommelier training from the American Honey Tasting Society. He has opened NYC’s only honey and bee shop, The Honey House at Astor Apiaries, where he regularly holds honey tastings and beekeeping events. The Honey House serves as a community hub for honey enthusiasts and beekeepers alike, offering a unique space to learn about bees, taste a variety of honeys, and engage in workshops and classes.
